Filipino pop group SB19 released its new single “Lawless” on Friday, along with an accompanying music video, marking the start of a new era for the P-pop act.
The release capped a milestone week for the five-member group — Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin, who performed Thursday (Chicago time) at Lollapalooza in Chicago, becoming the first Filipino act to appear at the festival.
SB19 promoted “Lawless” in the weeks leading up to its release with a teaser poster showing the group beside a black car and a large goat.
The group did not disclose details about the song’s meaning, lyrics or sound before its release, though promotional messaging pointed to a bolder, more defiant direction for the act.
The single’s release is part of a packed international schedule for the group. SB19 performed at the Grammy Museum’s Global Spin Live on July 28 and took part in the ceremonial first pitch at a Chicago White Sox game on July 29, ahead of its Lollapalooza appearance. The group also planned a one-day pop-up event in Los Angeles featuring merchandise and Filipino-themed experiences for fans.
Additional dates include performances at Summer Sonic Japan on Aug. 14 and 15, fan gatherings in the U.S. and Japan, and an appearance at the KPOPWORLD Festival in Texas from Oct. 28-31.
SB19 debuted in 2018 and has released several commercially successful singles, including “MAPA,” “GENTO,” “DAM,” “WAKAS” and “VISA.” According to Billboard Philippines, multiple SB19 releases have appeared on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart and the Billboard Philippines Hot 100.
In 2023, the group launched its own independent label, 1Z Entertainment, which the members have said gives them greater control over their music production.
